When people think about me and passion they usually say "sex", or "beer" but they dont see the serious side of me. What i am really passionate about is my chosen career and looking after patients. Theres just something about it that makes me smile and gets me really motivated to get up in the morning (even if it is at 5am).
When i first went into nursing i have to admit i thought it was a mistake, but when i began going on to my clinical placements i realised that that is where my heart truly lies. The best thing about it is knowing that you are sometimes the reason people want to carry on. Your the one they want to see walking on to the hospital ward at 7 in the morning because "you make them laugh" or "your the only one that listens". Its such a reward knowing that you make a difference everyday just for being there when people need you most.
There are sad times too, you see people leaving the world as we know it and pray to god that you let them leave with the respect and dignity that they deserve, that there last thougt, or sight was a happy one. Although there is discrimination that exists everyone deserves to leave with respect and as a student nurse I hope that i ensure this happens. My way of looking at is how would u picture it if it was ur relative in that bed? The answer is if it is real love between you and them you'd do everything in your power to forfill there wishes and needs. That is what nursing should be about!
